GM's Larry Burns Says Volt to Give Jolt to
World
At the Chicago Auto Show, General Motors vice president, Larry
Burns has stated that the Chevy
Volt, set to rollout in 2009 will give buyers worldwide
a jolt, when it comes to environmentalism.
Burns has stated that the Chevy Volt has
borrowed technology from GM's lineup of prototype hydrogen
hybrid vehicles that are currently under development and
in particular the electric motor in the Volt is supposed
to be the same as in one of the hydrogen vehicles.
Burns has also indicated that the same plug-in capabilities
of the Chevy Volt may make their way into the GM's future
hydrogen cars as well.

Although the Volt has been promoted as a plug-in gasoline-electric
hybrid vehicle, according to Burns this is not set in stone.
The Volt may also be developed to accommodate ethanol or biodiesel
fuels as well. No matter what though, the price of the lithium-ion
battery pack needs to come down drastically within the next
couple of years in order to make the Chevy Volt economically
feasible for buyers.
