Mercury
Hybrid SUV
The only Mercury Hybrid SUV currently on the market is the
Mercury
Mariner Hybrid SUV. The Mariner Hybrid is the second
Ford hybrid SUV now available with the Escape Hybrid being the
first. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid SUV when it first rolled out
could only be preordered through the Internet but now it is
also at all of the dealerships.
The Escape and Mariner hybrids share the same hybrid power-train
system, though the Mariner is a bit more upscale with its
features and is endorsed by the Sierra
Club. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid is a full hybrid
featuring 2.3-liter DOHC Duratec four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle
engine with two AC electric motors that provide both motor
and generator functions.
Besides the Mariner Hybrid there may be a couple more Mercury
Hybrid SUV's in the hopper - maybe. For sure, there is the
Meta One concept crossover vehicle (SUV- automobile cross)
that is regarded as the world's first Partial Zero Emission
Vehicle (PZEV)-capable diesel hybrid. Besides the leading
edge diesel hybrid power-train, the Meta One employs cutting
edge safety features as well, such as a lane departure warning
and collision mitigation braking.
What's another Mercury Hybrid SUV that is currently in
the hopper? Well, Ford / Lincoln / Mercury isn't saying.
Psst, but can you say, "Mercury Mountaineer Hybrid
SUV"? It's just a guess but it makes good sense, since
Ford is targeting the SUV market first with their roll out
plan. A little time will tell, though, since you can't keep
development of a new Mercury Hybrid SUV quiet forever.
